Discovery of Africa
2003 - 2006
It’s following several travels in Africa, during the year 2003, that my work found a new orientation. The light, wild spaces, looking like they are pushing back always the further horizon, the African ground itself, sometimes red, ochre or white, sandy and soft, or tough and rocky ground, give me the desire to translate on my canvas, the strength of earth and the feeling of mystery and beliefs cristallized by this original continent. Instead of representing the desert, as in my precedent series, I’m painting now directly with his substance, red sand of kalahari or beige and pink sands of sahara, to create from it a new dimension, more intangible and more material; even more sensual.
